Bio

I was born in Haifa, Israel of Armenian descent and grew up in Beirut, Lebanon. My family immigrated to the United States in 1958. We first lived in Philadelphia, Pa. where I attended public schools, then moved to Racine, Wi. where I completed high school in 1964. After graduation I lived a rootless existence traveling and working all around America during the 60's and early 70's with the only constant being my interest in art. In 1973 I began studies in art at The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where I earned a BFA in Fiber art in 1977. I earned an MFA degree in painting from Washington State University (Pullman,Wa) in1980. After graduation I moved briefly to Texas and then to Louisiana where I have been a practicing artist for over 30 years. I live in Covington outside of New Orleans and work in my private studio.

ARTIST STATEMENT:

I use the processes of construction and destruction in my art so that the final work is like an archaeological site showing the stages of creation in layers. The process of creation is central to the art's existence as a person's experiences and history is to their own. My art is a song of experience and survival rather than one of innocence but is beautiful to me nonetheless.
